About
Nine people are aboard. The platform is powered by the Kell-9, a 9 MW thermal lead-cooled fast reactor built in 2019, because there is no cable and nobody is coming with one. On the first page, in the control room at 06:40 on day one, Ilse Ravn says the whole thing out loud, because there is no point not to. The Kell-9 has been suspended eight times. Each suspension is a thermal cycle through the core vessel and the control-rod drive seals, and the design life is ten. The tenth suspension is the last one the reactor will survive. The replacement core module, the Kell-10, was due on the MV *Anemone* at 06:00 that morning, and the supplier cancelled it at 04:50 because the hull section failed its ultrasonic inspection and the earliest new date is day 118. There is 456 hours of fuel in the Kell-9, which is nineteen days at the current load, and there is no way to make it more. Then they wor
