About
At the height of a citywide eclipse, a glass conservatory keeps rare seeds alive with power drawn from the unused remainder of nearby citizens' dreams. Aven Rusk, 34, is the grid assessor sent to certify that the reserve is sufficient. Nia Kest, 40, is the conservatory's botanist and Aven's former adult partner. Oren Pell, 59, is the public-power trustee who built the emergency system and now treats involuntary private sleep as a civic resource. Across a compact three-act route, Aven decides what evidence to preserve, where scarce power should go, and whether Nia's private dream may be read with her explicit consent. A public assembly then chooses among an emergency commons with sealed private records, an independent consent trust with slower power restoration, or rolling circuits that trade visible blackouts for local consent. The romance is adult, nonexplicit, tense and grounded; no old intimacy becomes permission by default.
