Now thirty indebted adults must decide whether the thing beneath them is life, bad sterilisation or a mineral trick, knowing their sworn vote will travel with the evidence. Sergey Volkov, the drill boss she has loved in the practical grammar of shared shifts, needs the find disproved before his crew's bonuses and families collapse. Commander Hana Yun, Kepler's contract officer, is legally obliged to report any credible biosignature and personally responsible for keeping its chain intact. Love with Sergey may require burying the bore; love with Hana may require sending the message that strands them.
