About
The galleries were designed to be walked through rather than looked along: 214 metres of circuit, no sightline from any point to any other, a line of brass studs in the floor where the walked route goes. The collection is sixteen doors. They are the doorways of buildings that were begun and never finished, taken off their sites and kept, and the trade's oldest working rule says that an unfinished door is still a door and opens onto the room its builder intended. Marta Oyelaran has been a guide there for two years. She is twenty-seven, she is the only member of staff who holds a night key without a second signature, and she walks the circuit alone at the end of every day because the one hour that belongs to nobody is the only hour she owns.
