She served in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II and was sunk in 1944. Hatsuyuki was a member of the Fubuki-class of destroyers, which were the first destroyers to be built in Japan after World War I. She was commissioned into the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1934 and assigned to the 1st Destroyer Division. Hatsuyuki saw action in the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Battle of the Java Sea. In 1944, she was assigned to the escort of the aircraft carrier Zuikaku during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. During the battle, Hatsuyuki was hit by a bomb and sank. Hatsuyuki was posthumously awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class, for her service in World War II. In the anime series Kantai Collection, Hatsuyuki is a ship girl who is based on the real-life destroyer. She is a member of the Fubuki-class of destroyers and is assigned to the 1st Destroyer Division. Hatsuyuki is a cheerful and optimistic ship girl who is always willing to help her friends.
