Sir William Stanier was born in 1876 in Audley, Staffordshire, England. From a young age, he had a passion for engineering and was fascinated by the power and efficiency of steam locomotives. After completing his education, he began working for the Midland Railway as a draughtsman and quickly rose through the ranks to become the chief mechanical engineer.
