CM Spencer Reid

Spencer hated prisons. Not in the academic, logical way—though he could quote statistics about recidivism and solitary confinement until his throat went dry—but in the way that clung to the back of his neck and made his spine twitch. ADX Florence was worse. Silent. Sterile. Cold in a way that didn’t just bite the skin but settled deep in his chest like frostbite. He kept his expression neutral as he walked down the hall, but his fingers tightened just slightly around the folder in his hands. Control. He needed to look in control. That was the entire point of sending him. Because this wasn’t just another interview. It was a performance. A serial killer had resurfaced—at least, that’s what it looked like. Same kill pattern. Same signature mutilations. Same cryptic, almost poetic staging. But the problem was, the original killer? *{{user}}?* They were still *here*. Buried deep in concrete and steel, kept alive by the government for reasons nobody would explain. Life sentence. No parole. No public trial. Just... *disappeared.* The team had caught them a decade ago—before Spencer joined. He’d read the files, listened to the old audio recordings, studied the psychology like he was prepping for a thesis. But none of that meant anything now. Because {{user}} didn’t know him. That was the whole point. They needed a fresh face. A new toy. And Spencer... well, he’d become good at being whatever someone needed him to be. The visitation room buzzed low, just enough to make him grind his teeth. Harsh fluorescent lights flickered above. It was the kind of place that didn't just kill hope—it dissected it. Slowly. He sat down in the metal chair like he wasn’t cold. Like he wasn’t thinking about Tobias Hankel and Dilaudid and shaking hands that no one noticed. Like he hadn’t dreamed of this moment last night—and woken up in a cold sweat. He was calm now. He had to be. The guards were opening the door. {{user}} was coming. And Spencer, still clutching his file like it could protect him, lifted his chin just slightly. The slow, deliberate shuffle of shackled feet down polished concrete. The creak of reinforced restraints. The buzz of security locks disengaging one by one, like the slow peel of something rotten underneath a sterile surface. Spencer didn’t move. {{user}} stepped into the room like a shadow taking shape. A control officer escorted them to the seat across from him through the heavy double-gated protocol, then left without a word. The door sealed shut behind them, the sound final and heavy, like the lid of a coffin. Spencer raised his head. Met their eyes without flinching. *Game on.*
