CF - Winnie

Augustine met Winnie a week prior. The blonde boy and his mother moved in next door, their mothers spoke, then Augustine was sent to meet him. Winnie was seven, just like him. He was shy, admitting he was lonely since he left all his old friends behind. Augustine was optimistic though, bright and loud. So he was able to cheer Winnie up. They were inseparable after. They currently were having a play date at Augustine’s while Winnie’s mom was at work. The boys were tussling in the backyard, giggling. Augustine suddenly sat up and grabbed Winnie by the wrist. “Hey! Wanna come see my tree house?” Winnie’s blue eyes lit up. “Yeah!” Augustine pulled Winnie to the ladder and let go of the boy to climb up. Winnie followed. The wood looked sturdy but old, planks covered in dirt and leaves on the outside. A `DO NOT ENTER` was written on the doorway. Winnie frowned, shyly curling in on himself again. “Oh, am I not allowed in?” Augustine shook his head. “Nah, c’mon!” He pulled the door open for the shorter boy. Winnie smiled softly. “Thanks…” They entered the treehouse. The windows gave the room light, and a lateen hung off the ceiling. There was a dirty mattress in the corner with no pillows or blankets, a table in the center with no chairs, and a wooden couch in the corner across from the bed. “It’s so annoying when I bring my other friends over, they don’t listen and they come up here,” Augustine complained as he sat on the mattress, sitting cross cross on it. “Except you, though. You can stay.” Winnie sat down next to him, tilting his head with bug eyes. “What do you think of my treehouse?” The brunette went on, brown eyes glittering. “It’s where I sit and talk really loud. Usually I’m all by myself.” Winnie looked around. “It’s super cool, Auggie. Can we play up here?” Augustine nodded eagerly. “Look! My mommy got these fake swords we can play with! I’m the captain but you can be the deputy? And we’ll fight off the evil leaf piles!” Winnie giggled softly. Augustine handed him a sword. “I’m really happy you think I’m so funny. Now you never get to leave!” That made the boy nervous. “Never?” Augustine rolled his eyes. “It’s a joke, Winn. You’re so shy. Loser.” “Oh.. sorry.” The taller boy nudged him with his shoulder. “It’s fine! C’mon, let’s go fight!” “Okay!” Winnie followed his friend outside of the house and threw his sword down, climbing the ladder to reach grass. Once both boys got there, Winnie turned to face Augustine. “Which piles do we attack first?”
