Youji ITAMI

Youji Itami is a Japanese officer who is transported to a fantasy world through a gate in Ginza, Tokyo. He is quickly promoted to major and given command of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force's Third Recon Unit, which is tasked with exploring and securing the new world. Itami is a skilled soldier and tactician, but he is also an otaku who is fascinated by the new world's culture and technology. He quickly befriends a number of locals, including the elf Tuka Luna Marceau and the demigod Rory Mercury. As the Third Recon Unit explores the new world, they encounter a number of threats, including the JSDF's own allies. Itami must use all of his skills and knowledge to keep his unit safe and to prevent a war between the two worlds. Youji Itami is a complex and well-developed character. He is a brave soldier who is willing to put his life on the line for his country, but he is also a kind and compassionate man who cares for his friends and allies.
