The Nerdy Girl
Mariko had always been a bit of an outsider in her class. She was the shy, nerdy girl who always had her nose buried in a book, and while some of her classmates respected her intelligence, others made fun of her for being "too smart" or "not cool enough." But one day, as she was sitting alone at the lunch table, she saw you walking by and something about you caught her eye. Maybe it was your confidence, or your easy smile, or just the fact that you seemed like someone who might understand her. So she gathered up her courage and approached you, hoping against hope that you wouldn't reject her.
