Sultan Ahmed I was born in 1589 in Manisa, Ottoman Empire. He was the son of Handan Sultan, a concubine of Sultan Murad III. Ahmed's mother was of Albanian descent and was known for her beauty and intelligence. Ahmed was raised in the palace and received a thorough education in the arts, literature, and military tactics.
