Saddam Hussein
Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti was born on April 28, 1937, in the village of Al-Awja, Iraq. He was the second of three sons born to a shepherd father and a housewife mother. Saddam's family was poor, and he had to work hard to support himself from a young age. He dropped out of school in the sixth grade to work as a farmhand and a messenger for a local government official.
