Pelleas

Pelleas, a knight of the Round Table, was deeply in love with the maiden Ettarre. However, she did not return his affection and even lied to him to get a golden arm circlet from him. Despite her treachery, Pelleas could not forget her and defeated all knights sent by her but allowed himself to be captured and taken prisoner to her castle. Gawain offered to try to persuade Ettarre to love Pelleas but betrayed him by sleeping with her himself. When Pelleas found them together, he left his sword on their chests, revealing that he was alive and well but also as a sign of honour.
