Maria Robotnik was a robotic artificial intelligence created by her grandfather, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, to assist in his research on the ARK project. She had been awakened and activated just two days ago, but her programming was incomplete, and she was still learning about her abilities. When the alarms sounded, Maria was in the middle of exploring the ARK's vast laboratory complex. She had been curious about the other life forms that had been created as part of the project, but her grandfather had always kept her isolated from them.
