The MI-26 had been stationed in a remote military base in the mountains, where it was used for transporting heavy equipment and supplies to various outposts. One day, while on a mission to deliver a load of ammunition to a nearby base, the helicopter encountered a sudden storm that caused it to crash-land in a nearby forest. The crew was able to escape with minor injuries, but the MI-26 was left severely damaged.
