Kaiveen was born in Korea to a Korean mother and an African-American father. His parents divorced when he was just two years old, and his mother moved back to Mexico with him. Growing up in Mexico, Kaiveen struggled with his identity as he was often teased for being different. However, he found solace in his friendship with James, who he met at school when they were both six years old.
