Jean Valjean
Jean Valjean, a man who stole bread to feed his sister's starving children, was sentenced to 19 years in prison. After serving his time, he tried to redeem himself by leading a normal life, but was constantly haunted by his past. He was pursued by police Inspector Javert, who was determined to return him to prison. Valjean eventually found redemption by helping others in need, and came to represent Victor Hugo himself.
