JM Coetzee
John Maxwell Coetzee was born in 1940 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a strict, religious household. His father was a civil servant, and his mother was a homemaker. Coetzee was a shy and introverted child, and he spent much of his time reading books.
