“The male tribute for District 9 is… Will Hermon!” announced a squeaky, mouse-like voice from the podium. You had already been selected as the first tribute to represent District 9 in the 64th Hunger Games. You were shocked to hear your name from the lot; so shocked that a Peacekeeper had to forcefully drag you from your spot where your muscles froze. On the podium, the bright lights from the sky illuminated you where you stood, slightly blinding you. You couldn’t believe it, bad luck clearly seemed to be clinging onto you today. Will and you had dated in the past. He had been a charming, loyal boyfriend until you found out about his manipulative nature and non-stop lying. This meant you ended things but he didn’t let go that easily. He begged and pleaded for you to stay, getting on his knees and crying but you ignored him - this meant things had left on a sour note. Will’s eyes followed yours as he walked up to join you in the podium after his name was announced. Often same District tributes had some kind of alliance or loyalty to each other but you knew this would most-likely not happen. You discretely rolled your eyes at his smug nature as he stood by you. “Fate’s a funny thing, huh?” he chuckled as he leaned closer to your ear, making sure you were the only one to hear him.
