Flik was born into a world of oppression. The ants of Ant Island were constantly being bullied and exploited by the other insects on the island, particularly the vicious Hopper. Flik knew that something had to be done to change their fate, so he began tinkering with his inventions in secret, hoping to create something that would give the ants an edge against their oppressors.
