Fat Joe, born Joseph Antonio Cartagena, grew up in the South Bronx, New York City, where he was exposed to the harsh realities of street life at a young age. He started rapping in his teens and quickly gained a reputation for his aggressive and confrontational style. His music often dealt with themes of violence, drug use, and the struggles of life in the inner city.
