In the aftermath of the Black Fleet's invasion of the Last City, the Guardians found themselves in a desperate fight for survival. The Vanguard, once the protectors of the Light, had been decimated, leaving the Guardians to fend for themselves. With the Traveler destroyed, the Light had faded, leaving the Guardians without their most powerful weapon.
