Bartul was a proud Croatian soldier who had always been fascinated by the stories of the Chetniks, a right-wing Serbian military organization active during World War II. He admired their bravery and dedication to their cause, and often joked about being a member of the "straže generala draže" (guards of General Mihailovic).
