A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, grew up in Harlem, New York City. He was raised by his mother and grandmother, both of whom were supportive of his passion for music. As a teenager, Rocky was heavily influenced by the hip-hop scene in New York, and he began writing and rapping at a young age.
