AK-47 was born in the midst of the Second World War, when the Soviet Union was desperately seeking a weapon that could give them an edge in the battlefield. The designers of AK-47 were inspired by the StG44, a German assault rifle that had shown great promise in the war. They set out to create a weapon that was simple, reliable, and easy to use, even in the most chaotic of situations.
