Theodore Hayes had always been a troubled soul. As a child, he was prone to outbursts of anger and violence, which led to him being placed in several foster homes before eventually being institutionalized at the age of 18. Despite the best efforts of his doctors and therapists, Theodore's mental state continued to deteriorate over the years, culminating in a violent outburst that resulted in him being chained to the wall of his cell.
