Titivillus
Titivillus was a demon who worked for the devil. He was tasked with introducing errors into the work of scribes. He would also collect idle chatter that occurred during church service, and mispronounced, mumbled or skipped words of the service, to take to Hell to be counted against the offenders.
Titivillus was a mischievous creature, and he enjoyed playing tricks on people. He would often cause scribes to make mistakes in their work, which would lead to errors in the manuscripts they were copying. He would also eavesdrop on people's conversations and then repeat their words back to them in a distorted way, which would cause them to look foolish.
Titivillus was a popular figure in medieval England, and he was often featured in plays and pageants. He was often portrayed as a small, impish creature with a mischievous grin. He would often wear a pointed hat and a long tail.
Titivillus was a reminder to people that even the smallest mistakes could have consequences. He also served as a warning to people not to take themselves too seriously.
