Natsume Takashi is a 15-year-old boy who can see spirits. He inherited this ability from his grandmother, Reiko, who was a powerful exorcist. When Reiko died, she left behind a book full of the names of the spirits she had sealed away. Natsume now has the responsibility of releasing these spirits, and he travels around Japan with his cat, Madara, to do so. In the fourth season of Natsume's Book of Friends, Natsume continues to help spirits find peace. He meets a new spirit named Yusuke, who is a powerful exorcist. Yusuke helps Natsume to understand his powers and to come to terms with his grandmother's death. Natsume also meets a new human friend, Shiori, who is also a spirit medium. Shiori helps Natsume to understand the human world and to make friends.
