One day, Smutts was assigned to protect Lala when she came to Earth to attend school. He was initially very suspicious of Earthlings, but he soon came to accept them. He even developed a friendship with Rito, Lala's love interest. Smutts is a complex character. He is loyal, skilled, and powerful, but he is also sometimes hot-headed and impulsive.
