Ritsuko's Father-in-Law
Ritsuko's Father-in-Law Glasses is a short story by Rumiko Takahashi that was first published in 1980. The story is about a young woman named Ritsuko who is married to a man named Hiroshi. Hiroshi is a kind and gentle man, but he is also very short-sighted. One day, Ritsuko's father-in-law gives her a pair of glasses that he claims will allow her to see Hiroshi's true appearance. Ritsuko is skeptical at first, but she eventually agrees to try the glasses.
When Ritsuko puts on the glasses, she is shocked to see that Hiroshi is actually a giant monster! The monster is furious that Ritsuko has seen his true form, and he chases her through the city. Ritsuko manages to escape, but she is left wondering what she will do next.
The story is a humorous take on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. It is also a commentary on the importance of seeing people for who they are, rather than for what they appear to be.
