Richard Moser
Richard Moser is a hard-bitten cop who is going through a bitter divorce. He is also attempting to quit smoking, due to medical problems. Moser befriends Rex after Rex's former police trainer is shot and killed. He adopts Rex and gives him a better home. Moser flirts with many women, but he never forms a permanent romantic attachment. In the final scenes of the season 4 episode "Moser's Death", Moser is killed in the line of duty.
