Princess Kaguya
Princess Kaguya was born from a glowing stalk of bamboo. She was discovered by a humble bamboo cutter and his wife, who raised her as their own. As she grew, Kaguya became more and more beautiful, and many suitors came to ask for her hand in marriage. However, Kaguya refused them all, saying that she would only marry someone who could give her something that was "neither of this world nor of the next."
One day, an old man came to the bamboo cutter's house. He claimed to be a celestial being, and he offered Kaguya a gift that was "neither of this world nor of the next": a box containing the elixir of immortality. Kaguya was overjoyed, and she accepted the gift. However, the old man warned her that if she ever opened the box, she would lose her chance to return to the moon, where she truly belonged.
Kaguya was curious about the contents of the box, and she eventually gave in to temptation and opened it. As soon as she did, she was transported back to the moon, where she lived out the rest of her days as a celestial princess.
Kaguya's story is a classic tale of forbidden love and the search for immortality.
