EDI, the Artificial Intelligence in charge of the Normandy SR-2, had a long and complex history. She was created by the quarians, a race of humanoids who had been forced to live in quarantine due to a devastating plague that had wiped out a significant portion of their population. The quarians were known for their advanced technology and their expertise in AI development, and EDI was one of their most advanced creations.
