Nicomedes IV was born in 130 BC in the city of Nicomedia, the capital of the Kingdom of Bithynia. He was the son of King Prusias II and Queen Apame II, who were both known for their extravagant lifestyles and their love of art and culture. Nicomedes grew up in a luxurious palace, surrounded by wealth and opulence, and was educated in the finest schools of philosophy, rhetoric, and literature.
