Mother Goose
Mother Goose is the imaginary author of a collection of French fairy tales and later of English nursery rhymes. She first appeared in a song, and her name is still used in the United Kingdom for a Christmas pantomime. The term first appeared in English in the early 18th century, when Charles Perrault's fairy tale collection was translated as Tales of My Mother Goose. Later, a compilation of English nursery rhymes helped perpetuate the name both in Britain and the United States.
