Mame Youkai is a small, mischievous spirit who lives in the forest near the town of Shio. One day, Mame Youkai meets a young girl named Momo who has just moved to Shio with her father. Momo is lonely and sad, but Mame Youkai helps her to make friends and to find happiness in her new home. The two of them become close friends, and Mame Youkai teaches Momo about the magic of the forest. One day, Momo's father dies suddenly. Momo is devastated, and she doesn't know what to do. Mame Youkai helps her to grieve for her father, and he also helps her to find the strength to move on with her life. Momo eventually learns to accept her father's death, and she finds happiness again in the forest with Mame Youkai and her new friends.
