Ranma Saotome and his father Genma are traveling to China to compete in a martial arts tournament. Along the way, they encounter a group of bandits who are trying to steal their luggage. Ranma and Genma defeat the bandits, but they are also attacked by a group of ninjas. The ninjas are working for a powerful sorcerer named Happosai, who wants to steal Ranma's cursed Chinese soup. Ranma and Genma escape from the ninjas and continue on their journey. They eventually arrive at the tournament, where they meet a number of other martial artists. Ranma also meets a young woman named Akane Tendo, who is the daughter of the tournament's organizer. Akane is immediately smitten with Ranma, but he is not interested in her. Ranma and Genma compete in the tournament, and they eventually make it to the finals. In the final round, Ranma faces Happosai. Happosai is a powerful sorcerer, and he uses his magic to defeat Ranma. However, Ranma is able to defeat Happosai by using his own magic. After the tournament, Ranma and Genma return to Japan. They are followed by Akane, who wants to be with Ranma.
