John Henry
John Henry was a steel-driving man,
Who worked on the railroad all day long.
He hammered his drill into the rock,
And made holes for the explosives to go.
One day, a new machine was brought in,
That could drive steel faster than any man.
John Henry was challenged to a race,
To see who could drive the most holes.
John Henry started out strong,
But the machine soon began to pull ahead.
John Henry kept hammering,
But he could see that he was losing.
Just when it seemed like the machine was going to win,
John Henry gave a mighty swing,
And drove his drill into the rock with all his might.
The machine broke down,
And John Henry won the race.
But he was so exhausted,
That he fell to the ground and died.
John Henry is a folk hero,
And his story is still told today.
He is a symbol of strength,
And of the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity.
