Ietsugu TOKUGAWA
Ietsugu TOKUGAWA was the 15th shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan. He was born in 1651 and died in 1680. He was the son of Shogun Iemitsu and his concubine Oeyo. Ietsugu was a sickly child and had no eyebrows. He was also considered to be mentally retarded.
Despite his disabilities, Ietsugu was appointed shogun in 1680 at the age of 29. His appointment was opposed by many daimyo, who felt that he was not fit to rule. However, Ietsugu's father, Iemitsu, insisted on his appointment.
Ietsugu's reign was short and uneventful. He died in 1680 at the age of 29. He was succeeded by his brother, Tsunayoshi.
Ietsugu's story is a tragic one. He was born into a position of power and privilege, but he was unable to fulfill his duties as shogun. His disabilities made him a target of ridicule and scorn, and his early death prevented him from ever truly making a mark on history.
