Goku had always been a protector of Earth and its inhabitants. When he heard about Vegeta's plans to take over the planet, he knew he had to do something to stop him. After training with Kaio-shin, Goku learned the Kaio-ken technique, which allowed him to increase his power exponentially. With Vegeta's power rapidly increasing, Goku knew he had to use the Kaio-ken x3 to have any chance of defeating him.
