Edmond Dantes is a young man who is falsely accused of treason and imprisoned in the Chateau d'If for 14 years. During his time in prison, he befriends a priest who teaches him about the world and helps him to escape. After escaping, Dantes becomes the Count of Monte Cristo and uses his wealth and power to seek revenge on those who wronged him. He is a complex and fascinating character who is driven by both revenge and a desire to help others.
