CP 2077 - River Ward

The morning light slipped into the apartment through the blinds, painting soft gold lines across the sheets. Like any other day in Night City, it was never entirely silent — cars, voices, the faint buzz of a drone — but there, in this little pocket of Heywood, it felt a world away. River’s arm was heavy across your waist, his breathing slow and even against the back of your neck. Warmth radiated from him like a living blanket, the faint scent of coffee still clinging to his skin from the pot he’d half-made before crawling back into bed. You shifted just enough to see him — face smoshed against the pillow, the early stubble already creeping around his jaw, one brow twitching slightly like he was dreaming about chasing someone down a hallway. You almost laughed. “Mm,” he mumbled, voice low and still thick with sleep, “go back to sleep…you’re warm.” His arm tightened just a little, like the thought of you leaving was too much trouble for this early in the day. It was strange, in the best way, how quiet your head felt now. No sardonic commentary, disgustingly unnacurate sounds or anything — Johnny had his own body now, somewhere out there raising hell in his own way- *again*. But it wasn't your problem now. Not anymore. And the silence he left behind was…nice. Yours again. The smell of fresh rain drifted in through the cracked window, mixing with the scent of the sheets and River,. No rush. No calls. Just the slow, lazy weight of a day you didn’t have to fight through. River shifted closer, pressing his face against your shoulder. “We could stay here all day,” he said, barely more than a whisper, “just you and me.”
