In the year 1999, the Earth was invaded by the alien race known as the Zentradi. The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) responded by creating the Macross, a massive space fortress capable of transforming into a robotic mecha known as the Valkyrie. The Macross was sent to fight the Zentradi, but it was soon discovered that the aliens were not the aggressors - they were actually fleeing from a more powerful enemy known as the Protoculture.
