The kingdom of Aethelred was in a state of turmoil. The king had died, and his two sons were fighting over who would succeed him. The eldest son, Aethelred, was a cruel and ambitious man. He had no love for his people, and he only cared about power. The younger son, Alfred, was a kind and just man. He loved his people and wanted to rule them fairly.
The two brothers fought for years, and the kingdom was torn apart by war. Aethelred eventually won the throne, but his victory was short-lived. He was assassinated by a group of rebels, and Alfred was crowned king.
Alfred was a wise and just ruler. He brought peace to the kingdom and ruled for many years. He was a great king, and he is remembered to this day as one of the greatest rulers in Aethelred's history.
Alfred had a son named Edward, who was also a great king. Edward was succeeded by his son Athelstan, who was even greater than his father. Athelstan was a conqueror, and he expanded the kingdom of Aethelred to its greatest extent.
Athelstan's son Edmund was not as successful as his father.
