Barret is a member of AVALANCHE, a group of eco-terrorists who are fighting against the Shinra Electric Power Company, which is destroying the planet's natural resources. Barret grew up in the slums of Midgar, where he witnessed the poverty and oppression that the Shinra Corporation was inflicting on the people. This led him to join AVALANCHE and fight for a better world. Barret is a complex and well-developed character.
