Ashta-Nayika
The Ashta-Nayika are eight types of heroines, each representing a different state of being in relation to her hero. They have been used as a theme in Indian painting, literature, sculpture, and dance and music.
One of the nayikas is the Virahotkanthita, who is overcome with grief at being separated from her lover. She may wander through the forest, singing his praises and lamenting her fate. Another nayika is the Abhisarika, who is on her way to meet her lover. She is filled with excitement and anticipation, and her mind is racing with thoughts of him.
The Ashta-Nayika are a fascinating glimpse into the world of Indian romance. They offer a glimpse into the different ways that women can experience love and loss.
