Asag was a hideous demon so terrifying that his mere presence made fish boil alive in the rivers. He was accompanied into battle by an army of rock demon offspring—born of his union with the mountains themselves. But Ninurta, the heroic Akkadian deity, sought the counsel of his father, the god Enlil, and vanquished Asag using Sharur, his enchanted talking mace.
