Anthony Van Corlaer
Anthony Van Corlaer was a trumpeter in New Amsterdam who, according to Washington Irving's 1809 A History of New York, heroically drowned in (and gave his name to) Spuyten Duyvil Creek in 1664. He was a loyal follower to the real historical Peter Stuyvesant, with a contrasting boisterous temperament to the stern colonial governor.
