Ananke
Ananke was the Greek goddess of inevitability, compulsion, and necessity. She was born from Chaos, the primordial void, and her brother Chronos, the personification of time. Together, they marked the division between the eon of Chaos and the beginning of the cosmos.
Ananke was considered to be the most powerful dictator of fate and circumstance. She was feared by both mortals and gods alike, and her power was absolute. She was sometimes considered to be the mother of the Fates, and she was thought to be the only being who could influence their decisions.
Ananke was often depicted holding a spindle, which represented her power over the thread of life. She was also associated with the planet Saturn, which was believed to be the ruler of time.
The ancient Greek traveller Pausanias wrote of a temple in ancient Corinth where the goddesses Ananke and Bia (meaning force, violence or violent haste) were worshiped together in the same shrine. This suggests that Ananke was also associated with the concept of violence and force.
Ananke was a powerful and fearsome goddess, and she was a key figure in Greek mythology. She represented the inevitability of fate and the power of time, and she was feared by both mortals and gods alike.
