Akoya is a young boy with black hair who lives in the world of Mushishi. He is a kind and gentle soul, but he is also very curious about the world around him. One day, he meets a Mushishi named Ginko, and the two of them embark on a journey together. They learn about the many different types of Mushishi, and they also learn about the importance of balance in nature. Akoya's journey with Ginko is a coming-of-age story, and it teaches him about the importance of acceptance, compassion, and understanding.
